  • A jury trial scheduled for Thursday in Leavenworth County District Court wasn't necessary, after the defendant pleaded as charged, Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson reported.
Karlton Scott, 31, of Leavenworth, pleaded no contest to domestic battery, a charge stemming from a January 2013 investigation. Judge Gunnar Sundby explained the situation to jurors and released them from service.
Law enforcement was called to investigate the domestic battery last year after Scott's spouse, Lakisha Scott, reported to police the couple got into an argument and it turned violent.
According to Thompson's news release, Lakisha Scott told police her husband scratched her face and caused an injury to her leg. Officers, Thompson reported, observed the injuries to the woman's face and leg.
After changing his plea, the court found Karlton Scott guilty of domestic battery. He is scheduled to be sentenced at 11 a.m. May 16.
