  • April finds your Leavenworth Public Library busy and ready to roll out several events for you to enjoy.
Got your calendar out? Ready to start filling in some dates?
    Here we go …
Boots and Books, our unique walking book club, officially launched Wednesday. Meet at your library at 9 a.m. Mondays, noon Wednesdays, and/or 5 p.m. Thursdays. and join us as we walk and talk books. Our walking book club is member driven and features discussion about genres and books that interest us.
The club will run through the end of May and may continue through the summer if there is enough interest. Hope you can join us as we book through the community.
Bedtime stories continues in April each Thursday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. This cozy event happens in the Children’s Room at the library.
Just bring your favorite snuggly and curl up with us for some enchanting stories.
WG@LVPL, our writer’s guild for adults, meets every other Saturday. Our next meeting, where we will read letters written to the past, the future, or both periods in time, is April 12 in the board room beginning at 1 p.m. I hope you can join this talented group of writers.
If you are driving by you library on April 12 around 1 p.m. and something is bubbling out the doors, it is their originality and imaginations.
    April is National Poetry Month.
This year, the Kansas Humanities Council is celebrating the event by sponsoring Pin-Up Poetry.
It's described as “an easy, free statewide project that encourages Kansans to write, read, and share their own poetry and the poetry of others.” The event began Tuesday.
More information can be found at http://kansashumanities.org. Poetry submissions are featured on KHC’s Pinterest page. I hope we find your submissions there soon.
Speaking of Pinterest pages, have you checked out your library’s Pinterest boards? We have a link from our home page, www.leavenworthpubliclibrary.org. Just look in the top right hand corner of the page.
You can also get to our Facebook page by clicking on the Facebook icon. Like us on Facebook and stay up to date on what is happening at your library.
Something exciting is happening in the Teen Scene. Teens met and have decided to call themselves "Voice." The purpose of Voice is to “have a say in everything” in their library. The teens want to design a logo of their own and are launching a competition in mid-May. Stay tuned for more information.
Looking ahead to May, your library is celebrating the author of "The Wizard of Oz" series, Frank L. Baum, and his birthday May 15.
Page 2 of 2 - We have decided to commemorate this special event with Ozapalooza. This year, the library is celebrating Ozapalooza with our first virtual cake contest.
Coming on the heels of a successful virtual LEGO competition in Youth Services, we challenge community members to bake and decorate a cake using "The ‘Wizard of Oz" theme. Take a picture with your exceptionally decorated creation. Rules for this virtual competition will be available beginning April 15 and also online.
Here is a hint: We are looking for the best decorated cake by age group.
April will be a busy month.
We add events daily. Check out our wall display and website for the most current information. You can also find information about events on our Facebook and Pinterest pages and boards. If you have an idea for a program or event, contact us and let us know.
Be like the teens and find your voice.
It is our pleasure to be the staff of your Leavenworth Public Library. As always, we look forward to talking books and more with you soon.
