To the editor:
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Leavenworth, I would like to say thanks for the wonderful support of our 34th annual Irish Stew Dinner/Silent Auction event last month.
The event was very successful thanks to many folks throughout the community.
First, thanks to the Leavenworth Times for publishing the Q5 article the week before the event and to the local area businesses that helped advertise this event. Without all of this continued support, many folks would not have known about our event.
In addition, we had a few businesses contribute items to our Silent Auction and the dinner. Special thanks to Picket Fences and Petals, Celtic Ranch and Twin Oaks Health and Rehab, Mildred Jordt for donating the handmade quilt for auction and Judy Lyon of Meadow Lyon Design for creating a special Celtic design for the quilt stitching.
These items helped reduce our costs and allow Rotary to “earn” more money to donate back to the community.
Second, thanks to the staff at Riverfront Community Center who did an awesome job with set up and clean up. In addition, thanks to the Riverfront Community Center caterer, Terry Booker from The Café , for allowing Rotarians to utilize “his” kitchen to prepare the day before the event and on the day of the event.
Without the use of the kitchen, and some of your tools, and your stew preparation, this event would have never been possible.
Last but not least, many thanks to those in the community who came out and joined us for our traditional Saint Patrick’s Day Feast. Due to friends and family of Rotarians supporting this event, Rotary Club of Leavenworth was able to raise more than $4,000.
These funds will be used to support worthy community projects, primarily our scholarship program, which allows Rotary Club of Leavenworth to award several high school seniors from local area high schools scholarships so they have monetary assistance to further their education at a college or vocational training school.
Without the help and assistance of everyone mentioned above, and our extra special volunteer Rotarians who helped before, during and after, this event would not have been such a success. A great big hand clap goes out to each of you who were involved with this event. Many thanks again, and we look forward to seeing everyone at our next event.
