  • The Women's Division of the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Women's Leadership Summit later this month.
"We're pretty excited about this," said Virginia Rawlings, Women's Division president.
She said organizers are approaching the event with the idea that "all women are leaders in one respect or another."
"We lead whether we realize it or not," she said.
Rawlings said the event will focus on issues such as overcoming conflicts and leadership development.
The summit will be from 7:45 a.m.-1 p.m. April 22 at Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade. The cost is $40 for Chamber members, and $50 for non-members.
The event will include a breakfast.
Organizers are asking people to register for the event by Thursday. People can register by visiting the Chamber's website, www.llchamber.com.
Rawlings said the Women's Division has hosted the summit in the past, but in conjunction with an Administrative Professionals Day program.
"We are continuing to refine it," Rawlings said.
This year's event will feature nationally recognized speaker Sarah Sheila Birnbach, Rawlings said.
Birnbach is the chief executive officer of the consulting firm Birnbach Success Solutions.
"She's passionate about helping people be successful, especially women in general," Chamber President Jennifer Daly said.
Daly, who arranged for the speaker, said Birnbach's expertise is workforce productivity.
The event will kick off with speaker Denise McDowell. She is the dean of enrollment management and registrar for Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Rawlings said McDowell has been a speaker for the Women's Division in the past.
    "She's very enthusiastic," Rawlings said.
