Dorothy Elizabeth Smith, 94, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away at home on Sunday, April 13, 2014.
Dorothy Elizabeth Smith, 94, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away at home on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Dorothy a life long resident was born on December 28, 1919 to Henry and Bertha Hashagen.
Dorothy and her husband Jim were well known business owners and members of the community with a caring family and many wonderful friends. Dorothy was a rural mailcarrier for many years. With her husband Jim they founded a well known welding and steel business in rural Leavenworth, operated for over 30 years.
During retirement she was a donor and active volunteer at the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, of 73 years, her parents, two sisters, May and Gerturde and one brother, Fredrick.
She is survived by two sons, Dale and his wife Ingelore of Leavenworth, Kan. and Gary and his wife Mary of Weston, Mo., five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Family will receive friends Friday, April 18, 2014, 6 to 8 p.m. at the High Prairie Church, 26480 187th Street, Leavenworth. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the church. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to High Prairie Church.
