  • John “Jack” Tarpey Sr., 78, of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away April 23, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Private family services will be held at a later date.

  • John “Jack” Tarpey Sr., 78, of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away April 23, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Private family services will be held at a later date.
    Jack was born June 9, 1935 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey the son of James. E. and Anna Marie (Kehoe) Tarpey. Jack attended and graduated from Phillipsburg High School, and then entered the U.S. Army in 1955 as a Military Policeman.
    Jack was stationed at numerous duty stations throughout the United States, Korea and Germany, where he met his wife Inge. Jack retired from the military at Fort Leavenworth Kansas in 1975 after 20 years of Honorable Service. Jack’s military decorations include
    The Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Occupation Medal (Berlin), National Defense and Good Conduct Medals. Jack was also a past State of Colorado, American Legion Commander.
    Jack married Ingeborg Diehl on July 5, 1957 in Kassel, Germany.
    He is survived by his wife, one daughter; Barbara Hancock and her husband Ralph Jr. of Leavenworth, two sons; John Tarpey Jr. and his wife Jari of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Edward James Tarpey of Leavenworth, 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, one sister; Mary Ann Frey, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, a sister in law; Gan Tarpey also of Phillipsburg, and nieces and nephews.
    John was preceded in death by his parent and two brothers; Patrick and James Tarpey
