  • Kansas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, has announced the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center was honored with an Above and Beyond Award in recognition of "extraordinary support of its employees who serves in the United States Army Reserve," according to a news release.
Mansurah Habeebu accepted the award from Col. Frank Altieri, director of operations, HQ ESGR, and Walt Frederick, Kansas ESGR state chair, on behalf of Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center in a recognition ceremony April 26 in Overland Park.  SPC Daniel Schiffbauer, the nominating servicemember, was also on hand to recognize his employer.
The Above and Beyond Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize employers like the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center, who provide patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who, like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve, the release states.
The Medical Center is being recognized for their support specifically to Specialist Daniel Schiffbauer, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, in his military career. During deployment, he and his family received outstanding support in numerous ways.
The Medical Center has kept in touch through care packages and continuous benefits such as pay, insurance and seniority through deployment.
"Supportive employers like Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units," according to the release.
Since 1886, the staff of the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center has been serving veterans. Today, they serve veterans with health care as part of the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System. The Health Care System's primary service area consists of 39 counties in Kansas and Missouri.
The veteran population in these counties is more than 104,000.
