Two people were arrested after they allegedly attacked a man with a two-by-four Friday morning in Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.

Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens said officers received a report of a disturbance around 3 a.m. at an apartment in the 700 block of Cherokee Street.

Kitchens said there apparently was an altercation between the two suspects and victim.

At one point, a 30-year-old man is alleged to have thrown a weightlifting weight at the 33-year-old victim, but the suspect missed.

The 30-year-old suspect then allegedly began to strike the victim in the head with the two-by-four.

Kitchens said the two men began to struggle with each other. The second suspect, a 23-year-old woman, allegedly grabbed the board and struck the victim in the head.

Both suspects were taken into custody after police arrived.

The victim was transported to the hospital by a friend, Kitchens said.

"His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening," Kitchens said.

The police chief said he did not know what sparked the altercation.
