  • An inmate suffered a broken jaw during an altercation with another inmate Monday at Leavenworth County Jail, the sheriff said.
The incident was reported at 6:20 p.m. in a recreation pod at the jail.
Leavenworth County Sheriff Andy Dedeke said the dispute allegedly was between a 54-year-old man and a 25-year-old man.
"They happen to live in the same pod," Dedeke said.
The 54-year-old man suffered the broken jaw and was taken to the hospital.
Dedeke alleged the altercation was "mutual combat" and both inmates could face prosecution for the incident. The sheriff said reports have been sent to the Leavenworth County Attorney's Office for review.
Dedeke said he does not know what sparked the altercation. He said the two inmates did not want to discuss the incident with authorities.
