  • Three men were arrested Tuesday morning near Tonganoxie as they were caught while allegedly trying to burglarize a building, a Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 7:07 a.m. Tuesday at 20058 State Ave. The Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary in progress.
When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly found a 38-year-old man inside an unregistered pickup truck, which was parked outside an outbuilding on the property. Two other men, ages 19 and 20, allegedly were using flashlights to look around the inside of an outbuilding. There were several vehicles being stored inside the building, Undersheriff Jim Sherley said.
The three men reportedly had not been given permission to be on the property or inside any of the buildings at that location. The owners of the property indicated they didn't know the suspects, Sherley said.
Items believed to be burglary tools were found inside the truck used by the suspects, Sherley said.
The three men were arrested for attempted burglary, criminal damage to property and criminal trespassing.
