To the editor:
A news item in the May 8 Leavenworth Times outlined a recent SPLC report attacking those who seek to maintain local control over government schooling. The article descends into propaganda when describing SPLC as a "civil rights organization."
SPLC has always specialized in pulling the wool over the eyes of the gullible. It is reported, for example, that SPLC assets approach a quarter of a billion dollars in value, that a whopping 89 percent of all income is devoted to administration and fundraising, and the chief executive officer's salary is 34 percent of a million dollars.
No poverty here, folks.
When one considers SPLC political activity, on display in the present article, their ad hominem tactics, and their tax-exempt status, I would say the more apt descriptor is civil wrongs organization.
