Summer has kicked off and it can be sometimes difficult to keep away the boredom blues with your children.
However, summer can be lots of fun and it does not have to break the bank.
Summer can also be a great opportunity to teach your children the importance of living a frugal and simple lifestyle.
At our home, we thrive under routine. We also thrive with living with less.
By living with less, you know what you have and it truly makes you think twice before wanting to fill up your home. I find summer to be a great opportunity to teach our children about responsibility and living the simple lifestyle.
Every morning we have a schedule. We get up and do chores before we are allowed to start our day.
We have also taken the opportunity to purge items. This is a great time of year to clean out book bags from the school year and clean out closets.
It is important to get your children involved in this routine.
Other fun family activities have included playing in the sprinklers and simply going for walks.
However, one of our favorite frugal events involved many of our neighbors. For the last two years our neighbors have hosted a neighborhood shaving cream party.
The party has consisted of a large blue tarp and lots of cans of shaving cream. Typically each family on our block brings several cans.
We spray the shaving cream all over the tarps, put our children in bathing suits and goggles and let the kids go to town. This year, the event made for a great slip and slide and fun was had by all.
Another fun family activity is simply reading books. As part of our routine, my children are required to read a minimum of 30 minutes a day. This is a great way to open up your children’s imagination.
We have had a great summer.
Summer can be fun for children and it does not have to cost a lot of money.
