  • Here are five ways to have fun with Dad this weekend.
    1. Treat dad to a ticket to the movies this weekend. For older kids, you can accompany him to see “22 Jump Street,” an R action-comedy starring Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube and Nick Offerman. For the younger kids, if you have a truly awesome dad, he’ll go with you to see “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” an animated PG sequel to the 2010 hit. Some older “dad” movies still playing in most theaters are “Edge of Tomorrow,” the Tom Cruise sci-fi flick; “X-Men: Days of Future Past”; and Seth MacFarlane’s comedy “A Million Ways to Die in the West.”
    2. If your dad is a sports fan, this weekend is practically sports heaven: World Cup games take place all weekend, the U.S. Open Golf Championships are all weekend, the NBA and NHL finals are on and MLB teams are in action as well. Phew! Watch some games with him, prepare him snacks while he watches or just let Dad enjoy himself.
    3. If you and pops want to get out of the house but still enjoy sports, this is the perfect weekend to go golfing or bowling with him. Make the arrangements beforehand, because places are likely to be busy, and then enjoy a game or two (and make sure to let him win at least once!).
    4. If your dad is patriotic or is a military man, make sure to take time out this weekend to celebrate Flag Day with him. The holiday is Saturday, and many places will be holding events. Check the newspaper for listings, or get creative and make him a flag this weekend.
    5. Father’s Day weekend wouldn’t be complete with a cookout of some kind, so make sure to plan one. (But let him grill the meat - he knows how he likes it.) Plan the menu with his favorite foods, set up outside if it’s nice and enjoy your time together.
