  • A section of Kansas Highway 5 was closed Thursday in Lansing because of flooding from Seven Mile Creek, city and and Kansas Department of Transportation officials said.
An urban and small stream flood advisory was issued Thursday for Leavenworth County.
KDOT spokeswoman Kim Qualls reported that at 8 a.m. Thursday K-5 was closed in the area of Seven Mile Creek because of high floodwaters over the roadway. The highway reopened by 1 p.m.
Lansing Police Department Capt. Ben Ontiveros said officers had set up cones before KDOT barricades were put in place to close the highway.
He said some motorists attempted to drive around the cones.
"Our guys stopped them and told them they probably don't want to go that way," Ontiveros said.
Chuck Magaha, Leavenworth County Emergency Management director, said flooding at several smaller creeks resulted in water over gravel roads in the county.
He said most of the county received 1.5-2 inches of rain from the latest storm.
