Doris M. Collins 78, beloved wife and mother, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 surrounded by Jesus and her loving family.
Doris M. Collins 78, beloved wife and mother, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 surrounded by Jesus and her loving family. Doris was born on December 31, 1935 at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to Kenneth and Cathy Raney.
Doris met Claude in Leavenworth. They were married in 1960 and enjoyed 54 years of blissful marriage. Not only were they partners in marriage, they owned and operated Doris' Market at Broadway and Shawnee for over 35 years.
Doris was devoted to her family, but also enjoyed volunteering her service with Women's Eagle Auxiliary #55, Leavenworth. Volunteer work included Bingo at the VA, the county home, working at Sand Stone, and helping with dinners at the Eagles. Doris was also a member of the VWF Women's auxiliary and Saint Paul Lutheran Church. Besides her volunteer work, Doris enjoyed bowling on various leagues, playing cards, reading books, and traveling with her husband, family, and friends.
Doris is survived by her husband, Claude Collins of the home, one son, Claude II (Julie), two daughters, Robin Crim (Kevin), Deborah Lakin (Jeff), 2 sisters, Bobbie Buckner (Jack), all of Leavenworth, and Virginia Marten (Jack) of Selmer, Tenn. five grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive Doris. Her parents and her brother, Charlie Raney, preceded Doris in death.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A Christian service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Mt Muncie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Arrangements are entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.
