  • Three people were arrested Tuesday after they allegedly burglarized a rural Tonganoxie property, a Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.
The investigation began after the Sheriff's Office was called at 1:24 p.m. to the area of 222nd Street and I-70.
Someone was following what was described as a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle reportedly had been seen leaving a property in the 17500 block of Chieftain Road while the person who lives there was not at home, Undersheriff Jim Sherley said.
Deputies discovered items had been removed from the property.
A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper later located the suspicious vehicle, a 1996 Ford Ranger, at a scrap yard in Lawrence.
A 20-year-old Tonganoxie man, a 19-year-old Tonganoxie man and a 17-year-old Overland Park man were in the vehicle. They allegedly were in possession of items that had been stolen from the rural Tonganoxie property, Sherley said.
The suspects were arrested for allegations of burglary and possession of stolen property.
