  • An inmate who reportedly walked away from Lansing Correctional Facility on Monday was apprehended hours later at Fort Leavenworth, a Kansas Department of Corrections spokesman said.
    Ronald J. Emons, 52, was apprehended around 4:15 p.m.
He had been placed on "escape" status at 10:40 a.m. after he allegedly walked away from a work detail on LCF grounds, DOC spokesman Jeremy Barclay said.
Emons has been incarcerated at LCF's east unit for a parole violation.
He was convicted in 2010 in Atchison County of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child between the ages of 14 and 16.
He initially was placed on probation for the crime, but was transferred to the Kansas Department of Corrections after he violated probation, Barclay said.
Emons later was paroled but returned to DOC custody after violating parole.
It's not immediately clear where on Fort Leavenworth Emons was located.
Barclay said Monday afternoon that officials were in the process of returning Emons to LCF.
Barclay said information about the investigation of the alleged escape will be presented to the Leavenworth County Attorney's Office for a determination about possible charges.
