Daniel William Hawes Jr., 49, Leavenworth, Kan., died July 12, 2014. Mr. Hawes was born Aug.17, 1964 in Leavenworth, the son of Daniel William Hawes Sr. and Charlotte Louise Hawes. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1982. Dan married Arlene L. Castello on June 12, 1987 in Leavenworth.
Dan owned and operated Mid America Recovery and Tow. He enjoyed working with law-enforcement and helping people in need in his community. He worked in the automotive body repair industry at various companies in the Kansas City and Leavenworth area. He enjoyed car racing, fishing, boating, mushroom hunting, good food, and his many friends. Dan was known for his generosity and being there any time you needed him.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1994.
He is survived by Arlene Castello of the home; step son, Shawn Kiper; son, Max LeHew; mother, Charlotte Hawes; three sisters, Sharon (Jim) Houppert of Shade Gap, Pa., Donna Noll of Lansing, Kan., Cathy Hawes of Gilbert, Ariz.; brother, David (Dee) Hawes of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
