  • Quick Five Questions with Gina Redwine, Lansing Lions Booster Club

    • email print
  • Gina Redwine is a the publicity chairman/spirit yard signs coordinator for the Lansing Lions Booster Club.
She talks in this Q5 about the club, and its mission to help all teams and/or clubs beyond just sports.
    1. Which groups are supported by the Lansing Lions Booster Club?
"The Booster Club supports all extracurricular activities at Lansing Middle School and High School. It’s a common misconception that the Booster Club supports only sports.
"Groups such as the middle school choir have received funding for piano repairs and new outfits; OpGrad received a donation to help fund their graduation event; the Lionettes purchased new uniforms; new weight room equipment was purchased to benefit the entire student population; the cheerleaders requested and received funds for new jackets; a donation request was approved for the Eighth-Grade Celebration; and the Booster Club also awards cash prizes for the homecoming floats."
    2.  What new and exciting things does the Booster Club have planned for the 2014-15 school year?
"This year, the Booster Club will be operating the football concession stand.  Chik-Fil-A and coffee are just a few new items that will be offered at the home games, so be sure to stop by the concession stands to see what’s available. The Poker Tournament is back — tentative date is Sept. 27 — and, for the spouses, a Bunco tournament will be held on the same night."
    3. The Booster Club seems to be embracing technology and branching out into new merchandise. What are you doing this year to make ordering Lions spiritwear and other merchandise more accessible?
"The Booster Club has now started a new site on Square Market. All Lions fans can go to this site to order some fantastic new spiritwear, those very popular spirit yard signs (seasonal), participate in 50/50 sponsorship and even join or update their membership in the Lansing Lions Booster Club.  The web address is squareup.com/market/lansing-lions-booster-club."
    4. How does a group or activity request funds from the Booster Club?
"That’s easy: just go to the website, https://sites.google.com/site/lansinglionsboosterclub, click on the 'Forms & Docs' hyperlink, then download the Funds Request form. The completed form is submitted to Mr. Mattingly for review. The Booster Club asks for a representative from the requesting organization to attend the Booster Club meeting to formally request the funds on behalf of their group. It is recommended that members sit down early in the year and look at their budgets to see where they anticipate a financial need. That way, they can make out funds requests with plenty of lead time so the Booster Club may plan accordingly."
    5. When and where does the Booster Club meet and can anyone attend?
Page 2 of 2 - "The Booster Club holds its meetings on the first Wednesday of every month — Aug. 6, Sept. 3, Oct. 1, Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Feb. 11 (P/T Conference Schedule Change), March 4, April 1 and May 6 — at 6 p.m. at the Lansing Parks & Rec Center, located at 108 S. Second St.
"The meeting is open to all members or anyone who would like to become a member. Another fantastic way to stay connected to the Booster Club is by ‘liking’ them on Facebook at Lansing Lions Booster Club."
