  • Voters will decide their political parties' nominees for various offices during Tuesday's primary election.
County Clerk Janet Klasinski said polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the usual locations in the county.
Advance voting for the primary began July 16. Klasinski said advance voting will end at noon Monday.
There aren't many local candidates facing primary challenges. But, Democratic voters in the 42nd District of the Kansas House of Representatives will decide their party's nominee for the general election.
The 42nd District spans across western Leavenworth County and includes the cities of Easton and Tonganoxie.
Two Democratic candidates filed for the seat ― Harold D. Fevurly, Jr., of rural Leavenworth and Austin Lee Harris, of Tonganoxie.
The winner of the primary will face incumbent Republican Connie O'Brien of rural Tonganoxie in the Nov. 4 general election.
There will be contested primaries for some of the candidates seeking state offices, including Republican primaries for governor, U.S. Senate, Kansas Secretary of State and Kansas Insurance Commissioner.
Democrats also will be choosing their nominee for U.S. Senate.
There also is a Republican primary in the state's Second District for the U.S. House of Representatives. The Second District includes Leavenworth County.
Josh Tucker is challenging incumbent Lynn Jenkins for the Second District seat. The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat Margie Wakefield and Libertarian Chris Clemmons in the general election.
