  • To the editor:
Below is a poem I wrote called "Defiance."
    He saw it coming
The bullet that blew his heart into eternity
    But not at that moment
Living in the crosshairs of the snipers
    Surviving with clarity
    on the frontline
    bullets blast all day
    litter the streets, shatter glass
    pock mark the walls
He saw the sniper on the roof
    loading his rifle with bullets
two days before he would see no more
    He saw it coming
but no way to stop it
    In defiance he lived
    met his moment
crossing the street to get bread
In the crosshairs of the sniper
    Living on the frontline
    no more.
