  • The Leavenworth County Commission voted Monday to purchase a building in Tonganoxie, a county official said.
County Counselor David Van Parys said commissioners voted to purchase a building at 725 Laming Road for $422,500.
"The sale has not been finalized," said Van Parys, but the deal may be closed within two weeks.
He said the building will be used as a new county annex. Satellite offices for the county treasurer and sheriff will be located at the annex as well as a Leavenworth County EMS station.
Leavenworth County Emergency Management equipment also will be housed there.
The county currently has an annex located in the same industrial park in Tonganoxie as the building that's being purchased.
Van Parys said the location is suitable, but the existing annex is no longer considered optimal.
Van Parys said the new building is larger. It previously housed a metal fabrication business, but it's now vacant.
He said the new building has a loading dock with doors that should be sufficient for an ambulance and Emergency Management command vehicle.
Van Parys said the county will hire an architect for necessary renovations.
