Fact: Using ethanol emits more carbon dioxide into the air than using gasoline.
The government forces Americans to use ethanol. The ethanol mandate demands that ethanol be blended with gasoline at the pump.
A gallon of ethanol contains 77,000 British Thermal Units of energy and 12.57 pounds of carbon dioxide. For 10,000 BTUs of energy used, 1.63 pounds of carbon dioxide is emitted into the air by ethanol.
A gallon of gasoline contains 124,238 BTUs and 19.64 pounds of carbon dioxide. In comparison, for 10,000 BTUs of energy used, 1.58 pounds of carbon dioxide is emitted into the air by gasoline.
