I received this e-mail a few days ago and while I’m working on a couple different features with it, I wanted to get the information out now.
Seven-year-old Jackson Oberndorfer has a rare and life-threatening condition called Moyamoya. His ongoing survival story is raw, real and powerful, and hopefully someday I will have the time and privilege to tell it.
Until then, check out this link and read the release below to find out what you can do to help. Thanks.
Jackson Oberndorfer. Son of Justin (Obie) and Sara Oberndorfer (1995 graduate of Leavenworth High School and three-year varsity letterman for the Pioneers).
TO LEAVENWORTH HIGH SCHOOL PIONEER BASKETBALL ALUMNI
Family, friends, faculty and administration:
Jackson is Obie’s oldest child. He was recently diagnosed and treated with surgery for a very rare medical condition called Moyamoya. This is a rare condition and progressive disease that causes the blood vessels in the brain to narrow. Jackson recently had surgery at Children’s Hospital in Boston.
PLEASE go to the Caring Bridge website at www.caringbridge.org/visit/jacksonoberndorfer and read Jackson’s story and pre-op, operation and post-op journal entries.
On Tuesday evening, Feb. 21, the Pioneer boys’ basketball team will be hosting a benefit for Jackson. If you cannot make the benefit, we encourage you to read Jackson’s story and help by contributing to his cause. If you would like to donate, you may send your donation to the following bank in care of Jackson Oberndorfer’s name: Citizens Savings and Loan Assoc., 15500 State Avenue, Basehor, KS 66007.
Anything we can do to help defray the cost of their medical expenses as well as personal expenses for hotel and food while with Jackson in Boston will be greatly appreciated. We also ask for your prayers for Jackson and his family for Jackson’s continued progress and return to full health! As you read his story and journal entries by his mother, Sara, you will find Jackson is a remarkable and brave seven-year-old.
Justin (“Obie”) and Sara have a very strong faith and God has answered their many prayers. God has given them remarkable strength to carry on and support their son on his road to recovery.
If you would also like to send a card to Jackson and family, their address is 14104 Pine Valley Ct, Basehor, KS 66007. Please reach out to any and all players that will not get this e-mail message! Thank you! AND… continued prayers for Jackson and his family!
