It was a close vote, but the Lansing City Council voted to approve a resolution of support for a new apartment complex during a regular meeting on Thursday.
The council had already reviewed the matter last week during a study session, hearing from Ben Mitchell of Zimmerman Properties in Springfield, Mo., about the 48-unit low-to-medium income Covington Woods complex that is proposed for West Mary Street.
James McDonald, development associate for Zimmerman, spoke to the council on Thursday.
The company already operates the Lansing Heights townhomes, which are located just east of the proposed site for Covington Woods.
According to Mayor Ken Bernard, the resolution is a required part of the application process the company is going through to secure Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits for funding the project.
