Man injures hand when gun powder ignites

A man injured his hand Saturday in Lansing while removing gun powder from fireworks, a police spokesman said.

Lansing Police Chief Steve Wayman said the 18-year-old man suffered significant damage to his hand.

“I don’t believe (the injuries) were life threatening,” Wayman said.

The incident was reported at 2:10 p.m. Saturday in the basement of a residence on 600 block Willow Drive.

Wayman said the powder ignited, resulting in the injury.
