The Lansing girls’ basketball team struggled to take care of the ball in Friday’s KVL matchup at Basehor-Linwood, committing 27 turnovers in a 60-43 loss.

“We shot ourselves in the foot with the turnovers, and they had a girl (Jamie Johnson) with 33 points and probably 15 from the free-throw line,” head coach Keith Andrews said. “We just couldn’t keep up with her.”

Andrews said he was happy with how the girls played early, knotted at 9-9 after a quarter, and that the effort was there throughout the game.

“We kept playing hard, but that only goes so far when they’re hitting and we’re not,” Andrews said.

Gabby Hacker led the Lions with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Shelby Ogden scored eight, Morgan Bromell had seven and Michaela Taylor put in six. Emma Zeck scored four on the night while Emily Babcock, Danielle Pendergraft and Maggie Hornick had two apiece.

Next up for Lansing is a road game at Bishop Ward Tuesday.
