As a way of encouraging summertime blood donations, the American Red Cross has three promotions for potential blood donors.

First, two lucky winners from Aug. 1 through Sept. 15 will win a pair of tickets to the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kansas Lottery 300 race on Oct. 2 and the Sprint Cup Price Chopper 400 race on Oct. 3 at Kansas Speedway.

In addition, the Red Cross will be giving away a $100 gas card each day from Aug. 1 through Sept. 15. Donation sign-in sheets will be used to draw the daily gas card winner.

Also, thanks to a donation by the Ford Motor Company, the Red Cross is giving away a 2011 Ford Fiesta to one lucky winner.

Register online at redcrossracing.com between now and Nov. 1 for a chance to win. Visit the Web site for official rules.

The summer months are a tough time for the blood supply, officials say. With schools out and families vacationing, donating blood is often overlooked.

A single donation could make a difference in the lives of up to three people.

Local residents can make an appointment to donate at city of Lansing between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Lansing Community Center. Sign up to donate with Amber McCullough at 913-727-3036 or amccullough@lansing.ks.us.
