The hallways at Lansing Elementary School are currently filled with bright colors, small-scale construction paper communities, decorated skeletons and giant painted fish hanging from the ceiling.

Two teams from Eisenhower Elementary School are headed to a state Odyssey of the Mind competition.

For more than 20 years, Commissioner Clyde Graeber said the commission has most regularly met on Monday and Thursday mornings for meetings. But on Thursday the commission again discussed a schedule to host quarterly 6 p.m. evening meetings in order to accommodate those who are unable to make the morning schedule.
 

A woman remained in the hospital Friday morning, a day after she was stabbed at her Leavenworth residence, a police spokesman said.

Marci Penner is the executive director of the Inman, Kan., based Kansas Sampler Foundation that has organized the annual Kansas Sampler Festival each year since it started on the farm of Penner and her father. On the first weekend of May in both 2010 and 2011, the festival will be hosted by Leavenworth County. The foundation is also currently taking nominations for the Eight Wonders of Kansas History.
