No injuries were reported after a fire was discovered at a house in Leavenworth, a Fire Department official said.

The fire was reported at 8:47 p.m. Monday at 717 Ottawa St.

The house was supposed to be vacant, but there were signs someone had been staying at the home without the owner’s permission, according to Mark DeMaranville, division chief of prevention for the Leavenworth Fire Department.

A fire was intentionally set on the ground floor of the house. DeMaranville said someone may have started the fire for warmth, and it got out of control.

“All of the utilities had been disconnected to the house,” he said.

No one was at the house when firefighters arrived.

The Leavenworth Fire Department requested assistance from the Fort Leavenworth Fire Department. But DeMaranville said the fire at the house turned out to be only a small fire.

DeMaranville said there were signs that fires previously had been started in the home’s basement.
