A man was stabbed Thursday morning during an altercation outside of a Leavenworth convenience store, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported at 9 a.m. at 788 Spruce St. The victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, said Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The altercation between the victim, a 60-year-old rural Leavenworth man, and another man began inside the convenience store. The two men walked outside the store to the parking lot, and the altercation continued.

At some point, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach with a knife. The victim was transported by Leavenworth County EMS to the hospital.

Nicodemus said police have identified the suspect but no arrest has been made in the case.

“We haven’t located the suspect,” Nicodemus said. “He left prior to our arrival.”

The deputy chief would not comment about what may have triggered the altercation.
