A boy was taken to the hospital following a collision with a vehicle while he was walking near Richard Warren Middle School, according to a police spokesman.

A boy was taken to the hospital following a collision with a vehicle while he was walking near Richard Warren Middle School, according to a police spokesman.

The crash was reported at 3:07 p.m. Tuesday on Gatewood Street west of 10th Avenue.

The 14-year-old boy had been walking east on a sidewalk. The collision occurred when he attempted to cross Gatewood Street.

“He said he looked one way, but he didn’t look the other (way),” said Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The boy was struck by a 2000 Ford Focus that was traveling east on Gatewood Street.

The boy suffered abrasions to his hands and one ear. He was transported by Leavenworth County EMS to Saint John Hospital.

The driver, a 19-year-old woman, was not injured.
