An attempt to start a fire in Leavenworth with a Molotov cocktail resulted in minimal damage, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported Tuesday morning in the 600 block of North Broadway. A Molotov cocktail is a crude bomb made from a bottle filled with flammable liquid.

Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said someone apparently threw a bottle of alcohol at an entrance to a residence. The bottle had a shoe lace in it.

He said the bottle broke the glass of storm door. But the bottle did not break.

The Molotov cocktail caused a small fire, which damaged another door. Nicodemus said the fire apparently went out on its own.
