Two fishermen were rescued by Leavenworth firefighters after their boat started taking on water on the Missouri River, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The incident was reported at 2:45 a.m. Thursday south of the Centennial Bridge.

Firefighters launched their own boat into the river. When they reached the fishermen, the men’s boat was partially submerged, said Mark DeMaranville, division chief of prevention for the Leavenworth Fire Department.

The firefighters pulled the two men into the Fire Department boat. Firefighters were able to secure the men’s boat to the bank of the river.
