A man was arrested Thursday in Leavenworth for allegedly stabbing another man in the neck, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported around 1 p.m. in the 600 block of North Fifth Street.

Officers responded to an apartment complex and met with the victim, a 43-year-old man who had a stab wound in his neck.

The man reportedly was stabbed during an altercation. Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said he does not know what sparked the altercation.

“The wound was serious but not life-threatening,” Nicodemus said.

The victim was taken to the hospital.

Officers learned the suspect, a 39-year-old man, may have been in another apartment.

“They searched that apartment and found the suspect” Nicodemus said.

The suspect was arrested for alleged aggravated battery.

Nicodemus said officers recovered two pocket knives. It is believed one of the knives may have been used in the stabbing.
