A Leavenworth County Jail inmate man who reportedly ran away from an unsecured area last week remained at large Monday, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

George J. Burgess Jr., 38, reportedly ran away around 11:45 p.m. Thursday while on a duty assignment. Burgess, who was a trusty, was outside of the jail at the time but still inside the Justice Center building, according to Undersheriff Jim Sherley.

“We’re still working on it, still following up leads,” Sherley said Monday.

The undersheriff would not comment on whether authorities believe Burgess is still in Leavenworth County.

People with information about Burgess are asked to contact the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office at 913-682-5724 or 913-724-1313. People also can leave information through the Sheriff’s Office website tip line at www.lvsheriff.org
