A counterfeit $20 bill that turned up at a Leavenworth fast food restaurant will be turned over to the U.S. Secret Service, a police spokesman said.

The bill was reported to the Leavenworth Police Department on Monday at the Sonic Drive-In at 2309 S. Fourth St.

A woman reportedly attempted to use the counterfeit bill to pay for food.

“It was apparent it was not real,” said Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

Staff at the restaurant confronted the woman about the bill.

“She apologized and paid with real money,” Nicodemus said.

Staff held onto the bill and turned it over to police. The woman left the scene.
