A $100 counterfeit bill turned up at a Leavenworth liquor store.

The bill was used in a purchase Sunday at 11worth Liquors, 706 N. Seventh St.

A man reportedly used the counterfeit bill to purchase a $2 can of beer. He received $98 in change.

Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said personnel at the store did not realize the bill was counterfeit until the next day.

Nicodemus said police may have identified the suspect.

The case will be turned over to the U.S. Secret Service, which investigates counterfeit currency.
