Authorities have identified a woman cyclist who was injured over the weekend in a hit-and-run crash in north Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.

The woman’s name has not been released. But Leavenworth Deputy Police Chief Dan Nicodemus said she has been identified as a resident of Platte City, Missouri.

“We identified her and made contact with her family,” Nicodemus said.

Police initially were unable to identify the woman, who was unconscious after the crash. She was taken to the hospital.

Police are still looking for the car that struck the woman and the driver of the vehicle.

The crash occurred Saturday in the area of Fifth and Pottawatomie streets. After the crash, the driver reportedly turned around and drove away.

The vehicle has been described as a red four-door Mazda that likely has front-end damage.

People with information about the vehicle can contact the Leavenworth Police Department at 913-651-2260. People also can leave anonymous tips by calling 913-682-CLUE or 682-2583.
