Classes start today for students of the Leavenworth public schools.

“Each year, it’s a new beginning, and with every new beginning there’s excitement,” Leavenworth Superintendent Mike Roth said.

He said staff members seem upbeat and positive about the new school year.

Other school districts in the area also will begin the school year this week.

Easton public schools will begin classes Wednesday. The Easton district is beginning the school year with a new superintendent.

Tim Beying has taken over the superintendent duties after serving as the principal of Pleasant Ridge Elementary School.

“I really look forward to getting into the other buildings a little bit and seeing the kids from a whole different prospective,” he said.

In the Basehor-Linwood district, elementary students as well as sixth-graders and high school freshmen will begin classes Wednesday. All other students will begin classes Thursday.

Thursday is the first day of classes for students in the Lansing school district.

Students of the Fort Leavenworth public schools began classes last week.

St. Paul Lutheran School in Leavenworth will begin its school year today.

Most students at Xavier Catholic School in Leavenworth will begin classes Thursday. Preschool classes will begin next week.
