A man allegedly attempted to pay for gas at a Leavenworth convenience store with a fake $100 bill, a police spokesman said.

The clerk realized the bill was fake, and the suspect left without purchasing gas, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The incident was reported at 7:36 a.m. Monday at the convenience store at 300 N. Fourth St.

The suspect allegedly attempted to prepay for gas with a bill that had “promotion picture use only” printed on it.

The clerk kept the bill and turned it over to police.
