Two people tried to make a purchase at the Leavenworth Assistance Center using a fake $100 bill, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported at 12:37 p.m. Monday at 426 Miami St. The Leavenworth Assistance Center operates a thrift shop and quilt shop.

Printed on the fake bill were the words “promotion picture use only,” according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

Nicodemus said the bill was not accepted. The two people who attempted to pass the bill left before police arrived.

The incident is similar to one reported last month at a convenience store at 300 N. Fourth St., which is a block away from the Leavenworth Assistance Center.

In that earlier incident, a man reportedly tried to prepay for gas using a $100 bill that had “promotion picture use only” printed on it.
