Martha Allen is with the Leavenworth County Democratic Party. In this Quick 5 interview, she talks about the upcoming picnic fundraiser.

1. Martha, when and where is the Leavenworth County Democratic Party Picnic Fundraiser and why is it important for area Democrats to attend? Can anyone of any party attend the picnic if they have an interest in finding out more about the Democratic Party?
The Leavenworth County Democratic Party Picnic Rally and Fundraiser will be Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Basehor City Park, 15940 Leavenworth Road, Basehor, beginning at 4 p.m.  People who attend will have an opportunity to speak with Democratic national, state and local candidates, who will be on hand for the event.  It is also a chance to get to know members of the party from across the whole county and share thoughts and ideas about today's political issues.   All are welcome, without regard to political party membership.

2. Who will be the featured speakers and what issues will they address?
Paul Davis, Democratic candidate for Congress representing the Second Congressional District, will speak to the crowd about his plan to address issues affecting the Second District and the nation, while Kansas gubernatorial candidates Jim Ward, Josh Svaty and Carl Brewer will share their visions for the future of Kansas. State Representatives Jeff Pittman and Debbie Deere will attend, along with  numerous local candidates, to introduce themselves to the crowd and encourage everyone's participation in the upcoming elections.

3. What will the fundraiser money be used for and how can people who will be unable to attend the event contribute money?
Funds raised from the sale of tickets and various political items will be used to help support Democratic candidates and promote voter registration and participation in the election process.

4. When and where will the event be and how can people purchase tickets? What will be provided at the picnic?
The event will include an old-fashioned picnic menu of brats, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, drinks and homemade desserts.
Tickets are $10 and can be obtained by contacting Martha Allen, 913-775-8008, Trudi Hendee, 913-758-7451 or Sherri Grogan, 913-226-6705.
Online tickets are available at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/lvcodempicnic.
Lower cost tickets for children from 4 to 12 are also available.  Children 3 and under may attend at no cost.
Guests may bring their own lawn chairs.

5. Will the picnic be a good way for people to not only enjoy an outdoor event, but also to feel engaged by finding out more about candidates and asking questions and voicing their concerns?
Absolutely.  The picnic rally and fundraiser is a great way for people interested in learning more about the Democratic Party to ask questions, to meet the candidates who want to represent them and to bring up issues important to themselves in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
The Basehor City Park is a beautiful venue for county residents to gather and enjoy this annual, traditional community event.
