Authorities believe they have identified the man who robbed a Leavenworth shoe store earlier this month, a police spokesman said.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, currently is in custody in another jurisdiction for an unrelated matter. But he could soon could be charged in Leavenworth County, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

Police have identified the man as a suspect in the case of a Sept. 10 robbery at the Payless Shoesource store at 4824 S. Fourth St.

The robber reportedly poked what he said was a weapon into an employee’s back and demanded money. The robber apparently was spooked by another employee. The robber grabbed a pair of shoes and ran out of the store, according to Nicodemus.

The deputy chief said the case has been sent to the County Attorney’s Office for review for possible charges.

Since the robbery was reported in Leavenworth, the suspect has been arrested in another part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
