A house fire near Lansing may have resulted in more than $200,000 worth of damage, a fire department spokesman said.

The fire was reported around 4 p.m. Monday at 24995 Wolcott Road, which is Kansas 5 Highway. No injuries were reported. The homeowner was checked for possible smoke inhalation but was OK, according to Lt. Dave Asmus of Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1.

Asmus said the fire started in an attached two-car garage.

“It got into the house also,” Asmus said.

He said firefighters were at the scene for about 3.5 hours.

Nineteen members of Fire District No. 1 responded to the fire. And members of the Fairmount Township Fire Department and Leavenworth Fire Department provided assistance.

Asmus said the garage was destroyed, and about half of the one-story house was damaged by fire. All of the house had smoke damage.

Asmus estimated the loss to be between $200,000 and $250,000.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday morning. Asmus said firefighters planned to return to the scene for more investigation.
