Local economic officials have been awaiting word regarding a site search for a new Department of Veterans Affairs Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy facility.

And Steve Jack, executive director of the Leavenworth County Development Corporation, has been told he may hear something in the next 30 to 60 days.

"But we've heard that before," Jack said.

The VA currently operates a CMOP facility in Leavenworth. But VA officials are looking to move to a new facility in the Kansas City region.

Jack said six sites in Leavenworth County have been submitted for consideration. But there are several sites outside of the county that also have been offered for consideration.

Jack provided an update about the project Wednesday during a meeting of the Leavenworth County Port Authority Board of Directors.

The Port Authority is a partner organization of LCDC.

Officials connected to the site search visited Leavenworth County in 2016.

Jack said he has been told the funding vehicle for the project has been changed, which delayed the project. But the U.S. General Services Administration apparently will be issuing a request for lease proposals for the project.
