A man was shot on a rural road near Easton last Friday in an apparent drug deal gone bad.
The Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office reports that the victim suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds to his upper thigh and back.
Undersheriff Jim Sherley said deputies were dispatched to the scene to make contact with the victim at around 7:15 p.m. Friday.
Sherley said the victim said he was shot by the suspect at 7:10 p.m. Friday during a drug transaction.
He said the victim was transported by Leavenworth EMS to the KU Medical Center.
Sherley said the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office received additional information at about 8:15 p.m. Friday that the suspect was still in the area.
He said deputies searched the area for the suspect. At 8:25 p.m. Friday, contact was made with the suspect on 231st Street north of 7 Sisters Road during a felony traffic stop.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
Sherley said the suspect’s vehicle and the victim’s vehicle were towed from the scene.
The suspect was booked into the jail for attempted second degree murder.
Sherley said an investigation is under way.
