Parents of Earl M. Lawson Elementary School were notified of an incident last week in which a stranger reportedly tried to entice a student to get into a car with him.

The notification, which was generated by the Leavenworth public schools, was sent Thursday to parents by email and phone, according to district spokesman Jake Potter.

He said the message concerned an incident that had been reported to school staff by a parent. The incident reportedly took place the previous day after school and off of school property.

A man reportedly asked a student to get into his car, but the student declined. The incident was said to have occurred along Fifth Street near the downtown area.

Potter said school officials were told the matter had been reported to law enforcement officers.

However, officials with the Leavenworth Police Department said they could find no record of the incident being reported to their department.
