A Leavenworth man has pleaded no contest to sexually abusing a child, according to a prosecution official.

Wesley Jackson, 27, entered the plea to the charge of aggravated criminal sodomy Wednesday in Leavenworth County District, according to County Attorney Todd Thompson.

The crime occurred while Jackson reportedly was living with a girlfriend and her child from 2015-2016. The child, who was born in 2006, was the victim of the crime.

Thompson said in a news release that the victim would have been required to testify if the case had gone to trial.

“This plea was approved by the family," Thompson said.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 7.

Another case is pending against Jackson. This case involves allegations that he failed to meet reporting requirements as a sex offender following an earlier conviction for indecent liberties with a child.
