Fire danger to increase

Area residents likely will see a warmup this week, at least for the middle part of the week.

And Leavenworth County Emergency Management officials believe the warmup will be accompanied by an increase in the grassfire danger.

High temperatures in the Leavenworth area will be in the low 60s on Wednesday, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service.

The high temperatures on Thursday will be in the upper 50s. But conditions should be colder Friday with a high near 30 degrees.

Temperatures may warm up some again for the weekend with a high near 49 degrees on Saturday and a high of 54 degrees on Sunday.

Leavenworth County Emergency Management Director Chuck Magaha said the fire danger already was high Monday. He said it likely will be very high Wednesday.
